Its been called Asia's Las Vegas. and Its also been years since I remember dreaming of actually coming here. Macau boasts of Portuguese food, Historical sights, and not to miss Egg tarts! Only 45 minutes away from Hong Kong, by ferry.
What I really liked about this trip is that we were able to travel leisurely. By that, we mean having the time to smell and sip our coffee, walk hand in hand while shopping, taking pictures while crossing a street, even if everyone else is looking at us, two girls snapping photos of each other, on a pedestrian lane. These girls must be crazy, they thought so.
This is not a dream vacation yet. But by far, this is what I enjoyed most during my seven day stay in Hong Kong. (not in a particular order of enjoyment, though)
- Having the time to get lost and finding our way back again, Merry go round style.
This happened the first hour we arrived in Macau. We were surprised to find that very few people actually speak English, except for a few policia (police officers) whom we find talking to us in stuttering English too. After all, its just 45 minutes away from English- speaking Hong Kong residents, why would we expect that Macau be anyplace different? We spent almost half hour figuring out what bus number to ride, only to find out that we are standing on the wrong bus stop, boarding the wrong bus number that will take us back to Terminal Maritimo do Porto Exterior (Macau ferry terminal) where you can find your way back to Hong Kong. :) I also forgot to mention, bus routes posted on designated stops are either in their Mandarin or Portuguese names!
- Sipping coffee at Victoria Peak, with bonus of watching the Symphony of lights.
Kat and I so love coffee that we wanted to have the perfect backdrop over a cup of coffee and a great conversation. We went to Victoria Peak in Hongkong, aound 8 in the evening to catch the Symphony of lights. Its actually best seen at Tsim Tsa Tsui Waterfront, Avenue of stars down below, but we wanted something different. We want to try having coffee at the highest point in Hong Kong watching the Symphony of Lights altogether. Kathrine, still remember the guy you spotted there? *wink*
- Going through all the means of looking for that famous restaurant, must-do's landmarks, and must-see places that took you there.
This is what I am looking forward to while traveling. Admittedly, I know I just cant do this on a normal basis, yet. Back at home, we have schedules to keep, things to do and places to be. One of the pleasures in life- simply traveling and let your senses be your guide to where it will take you.
- Jingling foreign currency while bus driver waiting for you impatiently and later realizing that everyone else is looking at you too.
Pataca is Macau's official currency. Although they accept Hong Kong dollars too, I decided to have Pataca coins with me during my first trip to Macau, for convenience or so I thought. Digging my purse for coins to pay for my bus ride, looking at several coins trying to figure out the exact amount to pay. The now impatient bus driver motions me to come closer and gets the coins from me himself and drops it in the payment box. As I took my seat, I realized that I have kept everyone waiting.

- Later on, its about realizing that its rarely the food and place that made you loved the place more, but on how it captured your heart, appealed to your senses and inspire you to dream of travel.
Only then did I realize that, this is in fact one of the trips that I would gladly tell over and over again.
